Wotofo Gear V2 RTA Review – A Worthy Successor?

Welcome to the blog! Today we will be looking at the Wotofo Gear V2 RTA.

The Gear V2 is of course the successor to the original Gear RTA from Wotofo so I’m pretty keen to see what improvements have been made compared to its predecessor.

Wotofo actually sent the Gear V2 for us to try, so a massive thank you to them for giving us a chance to check out one of their latest RTA’s.

This doesn’t sway my opinion of the tank, as much as I love a freebie, I’ll keep this honest.

The Design

For the purpose of this review, we were sent the Gear V2 in rainbow, however, there are six colours in total including Black, Blue, Gold, Gunmetal, Rainbow and Stainless Steel which all come with a PCTG glass section instead of the usual glass which we’ve seen on a majority of tanks.

Wotofo’s Gear V2 drip tip is not interchangeable as it is moulded into the top cap.

The design was chosen to shorten the air passage, therefore, delivering flavour instantly.

Airflow on this RTA is positioned and cannot be moved, this is to reduce the amount of liquid that condensates. I would have preferred adjustable in all honesty but I can see why they have done it this way.

From the looks of the tank, it appears to suit those who are looking for a tank with a strong flavour and thanks to its compact design and ingenuity, you’ll be getting some fantastic flavour.

The Deck

The deck for the Gear V2 is pretty decent for a single coil deck.

When installing coils, you’ll have to “dog-leg” one of the legs of the coil (to face the opposite way) in order to install.

Thankfully, Wotofo have been good sports and have supplied a handy tool to make it easier; you’ll get one of these in the box.

As you can see from the image below, the deck has two large flat-top screws as well as two walls opposite each screw to improve the airflow of the tank.

Wotofo Framed Staple Clapton Coils

The kit comes equipped with two Framed Staple Clapton coils which are rated at 0.33ohm and definitely pack a punch.

Here are the specs for those coils if you’re after a bit more info.

Framed Staple Clapton Coil

Material: Ni80
Resistance: 0.33Ω
Inner Core: 28G+38Gx9+28G
Outer Wire: 36G
Internal Diameter: 3mm
Power Range: 5-60W
Best At: 40-50W

I’ve used a few different coils from Wotofo and I’ve got to say that these work the best in my opinion, they heat up quickly and have excellent flavour from them with a good lifespan to match.

Final Verdict: Wotofo Gear V2

I’m not normally a massive fan of RTA’s; I prefer a good old fashioned RDA. However, the Gear V2 has not disappointed me. It’s simple to build on and the flavour is spot on thanks to the compact design with shorted airflow passage from the coil to drip tip.

Pros Vs. Cons

ProsCons
– Good flavour
– Easy to build
– Good design
– The tank is made from PCTG plastic
– Cannot use a custom drip tip
– Locked airflow

To be fair, the cons are there for those who would perhaps prefer to be able to adjust the airflow in addition use their favourite drip tips but I personally can’t fault the performance of the tank itself.

If you are looking to get yourself the Gear V2 I would highly recommend it.
